Maidstone United 5-2 Faversham Strike Force
Maidstone overcame a determined Faversham Strike Force last Sunday to maintain the unbeaten start to their league campaign.
Faversham raced into the lead on two minutes when Emily Murphy was on hand to pounce on a defensive mishap. It took a further half hour for Maidstone to break down the incredibly organised Strike Force defence as Carly Farrow raced onto a “lost cause” ball and hammered home from a tight angle. As half time approached Nicola Morris grabbed Maidstone’s second of the afternoon. However Faversham heads refused to drop and Emily Murphy scored with an audacious lob in first half injury time.
Faversham continued to defend resiliently however legs soon started to tire as Maidstone stepped up their relentless pressure – on 69minutes the break through. JJ Sullivan piling on the pressure forced a defensive error that led to an own goal. Before they had anytime to settle the Stones added a fourth with Nicole Davies heading home from a corner. Maidstone were now in the ascendancy with the ball rarely leaving the Strike Force half.
Despite the scoreline the Strike Force must surely take a lot of positives from this game, they travelled to the Gallagher with a depleted squad, with a plan and for 60minutes it worked causing untold frustration to Maidstone. Alas the two quick fire Maidstone goals ended any hope Faversham had of nicking a point – However they maintained their composure and it wasn’t until the last kick of the game that Maidstone added their 5th – a fantastic solo effort from Abbi Collins sealing the win.
